Go Daddy Goes Down, Bringing Thousands of Small Businesses With It
Yesterday several of our clients reported that their sites were down for several hours. The reason, reports the Associated Press, is that GoDaddy.com was brought down by the hacker group Anonymous.
Dorey Design Group does not use Go Daddy for hosting for any of our clients, but we do use them extensively as a domain registrar. Sites with domains registered through Go Daddy were affected by the outage, which began at around 10:30 am, Pacific time, and lasted as long as four hours for some sites.
An Anonymous-affiliated twitter account took responsibility for the attack, which may be the largest hacker takedown ever. Go Daddy denies that their servers were hacked, blaming a "series of internal network events" for the outage. Go Daddy has been criticized for their support of the federal Stop Online Piracy Act ("SOPA").
